It's a real pity and the sad part is those first three quantum SPACs are just so laughable an actual revenue generation and prospects. To be honest, with this new venture capital reality, a lot of quantum startups are going to have to be acquired for their talent and IP or whatever.
Which is the problem with hype right? It doesn't make a business model. The more I try and cover the PR around these companies, the more I realize they don't have paths to profitability that make much sense. There are exceptions of course, and perhaps you are indeed a fan of IonQ
So far I don’t think any of the quantum spacs have a truly plausible business model without major advancements in the state of the art and a lot more knowledge about what exactly gets you quantum advantage across a variety of problems. The only reason I don’t have an IonQ market is that they raised $600M and even with a 50% drop in market cap are still a $1B company. The ‘market’ seems to believe that’s the right price for them (for now). Raising that $600M put them in a much, much better place than DWave or Rigetti, IMO.
